Weddings

For Christians, marriage is the covenant between a woman and a man before God. It is the visible sign of the mystery of the union of love between Christ and the Church. It is also a sign of gracious, sacrificing, faithful love.

At Advent Episcopal, candidates for marriage must be baptized Christians. Arrangements should be made as soon as possible prior to the wedding and at least several months in advance. The rector will provide spiritual direction and guidance to the couple to prepare for the marriage. There will be a minimum of three meetings between the bride, the groom and the priest.

The wedding ceremony can take place in the sanctuary, in the parish hall, or at the location of your choice. The parish hall can be rented for wedding receptions and a caterer is available.

If either person has previously been married, permission to marry must be given by the Bishop of the Diocese of Southern Virginia prior to the wedding; the church secretary can assist with how to do this.

To schedule a wedding, please contact the rector at 757.587.0125 or by email.
