Funerals

In the Episcopal Church, funeral services are available to any person regardless of their origin or beliefs.

Funerals celebrate the life of a loved one and provide comfort in the promise of life beyond our mortal life. The funeral service is a celebration of the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that baptized Christians share with Christ in his Resurrection and victory over death. This means that the funeral liturgy is an Easter liturgy characterized by joy. This joy, however, does not replace human grief. The very love we have for each other in Christ brings deep sorrow when we are parted by death. Jesus himself wept at the grave of his friend Lazarus. So, while we rejoice that one we love has entered into the nearer presence of our Lord, we sorrow in sympathy with those who mourn.

The clergy, vestry, and church members offer their caring support to individuals and families in difficult days. Whether you need help in just talking or help with a reception in the Parish Hall after the funeral service, you will find help here.

The rector and the church team will assist you in planning the funeral ceremony with suggested readings, psalms and hymns.

Contact the rector as soon as possible at 757.587.0125 or by email.
