Baptisms
The holy sacrament of Baptism is the full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body, the church. In this ceremony, God establishes an indissoluble bond with each person. Baptism makes us members of the church and lays the foundation for all future church participation and ministry. Baptism is the only required sacrament for joining in the Holy Eucharist and all other ministries of the Church.
Each candidate for baptism in the Episcopal Church is sponsored by one or more baptized persons who are known as GodParents. During the Baptism ceremony, GodParents speak on behalf of the baptism candidates.
Advent Episcopal Church performs baptisms during Sunday service with the members of the congregation present and pledging to do all they can to support the baptism candidates in their life in Christ. The Baptism itself is performed in Advent Episcopal by pouring holy water on the candidate's head from the Baptismal Font. The newly baptized person is "sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's own forever."
